Don Kenoyer Duo
In 2019 I formed a duo with keyboardist Ted Askew to perform these songs live with a more stripped down approach, with both of us playing live keyboards and vocals along with backing tracks. Ted and I first played keyboards togther in the Seattle band Life in General (X-15) and later in the Factoria Dolls. We think of ourselves as a sort of derranged orchestra pit. What follows are some highlights from 2019 live sets.
Fireflies
This is a track from COMPASS FLUX. The backing track features Don Kenoyer on bass and drum loops from Reason. Ted really brought a different take to this one!
Long Shadows
This is a track written during the Tiny Hat Orchestra years and appeared on both "Put a Hat on It" and "Noon at Nine" CDs. The backing track features Don Kenoyer on sampled standup bass and AI drums via Logic. Ted's piano playing on this track is quite inspired!
Parade
Magazine has always been one of my favorite bands and influences. Parade is a cover of a Magazine song from their debut album "Real Life." The backing track features Don Kenoyer on bass and AI drums via Logic. More lovely piano work from Ted!
